Why Would Thais Want to Know Jesus?
"Let us weigh the gain and the loss, in wagering that God 'is'. Consider these alternatives: if you win,
you win all, if you lose you lose nothing. Do not hesitate, then, to wager that He is."
Blaise Pascal
French mathematician, physicist, philosopher (1623 - 1662)
There is no
doubt that it is difficult for people to change their way of thinking, especially when it comes to something as personal,
emotional and, as important, as trust in "spiritual" things. With that in mind, why
would a person want to consider changing their beliefs and trust in Jesus Christ as the spiritual "Lord" of their life?
Trust in
any spiritual issue comes from "faith" (trust in things that cannot be seen). But our faith, or trust, can also
be based upon evidence to support that our beliefs are based upon truth and reality and not simply trust in "stories"
or "fairy tales" that have been passed from one person or another.
Some "evidence" that supports the reality of there being a living, God-Spirit who created the universe, who
created all the physical and spiritual world and who is in control of all things:
- Evidence seen in the intricate system of the universe. Intelligence and reason tells us that nothing so detailed
and complex as the universe and all that is in it could have created itself. "There MUST be one with amazing intelligence
and power to have caused this universe exist and to function as it does for thousands of years without change.
If you look the watch on your wrist, even though you did not see how it was made, you "know" it did not make itself.
Someone with intelligence must have made it. How much more impossible it would be for the universe to exist without
an intelligent God to have engineered its existence and operation. A key law of reality is: "WHERE THERE IS ORDER, THERE
MUST BE INTELLIGENCE!"
-Evidence of the existence of your spiritual soul.
Every person knows that they have a "spiritual" identity as well as their physical body. They know they have
a spiritual soul. Why do we humans have this unique aspect of our identity? Because it results in our knowing
that there is a spiritual God who can communicate with us spiritually. We know the evidence of His communication with
us by our being influenced by His spiritual voice. People frequently say, "Do good and you receive good. Do evil,
or bad, and you will receive bad." This is true. Why is there such a law of cause and effect? Why would
we not receive "good" and feel "good" in our spiritual soul if we did evil, or bad, things? Because the true, Spiritual
God speaks to us and tells us that this is His created order. It is the Order that HE created, and He tells all people
that this is true.
You also know that you have a spiritual soul because we all know that we will be rewarded or punished after life
in this world. We know this because the true Spiritual God speaks to us and tells us this. We are fortunate because
this Spiritual God is a God of love and He loves you and has given all people a way to be forgiven by Him for all the bad
things we do in this life. The Spiritual God came into this world and was born in the Asian country of Israel as a "baby
boy", who was named "Jesus", which means, "God with us". He did not have a "birth Father". He was born by the
Spirit-God performing a miracle and causing a virgin girl to become His Mother. Therefore, Jesus is not only "God",
He is the "Son of God". Now, God's way for us to be forgiven is by trusting in His Son, Jesus Christ.
God promises that if we make this decision to trust in Jesus Christ as Lord over our lives, He will forgive us and His eternal,
Holy Spirit will live in our spiritual soul and give us true life for all eternity. We will never suffer the punishment
of His judgment for sin, and we will be accepted as "Children of the Most High God" forever!
So, what do you have to lose by trusting in the Most-High God, Jesus Christ, as Lord of your spiritual
soul? If God is real, as proven by the evidence mentioned above, then you have MUCH to lose if you do not trust in
Him. You will lose the opportunity to be forgiven for all of your sins and you will lose the opportunity to be protected
and accepted by the Great, Spiritual God as you live in this world and you lose the opportunity of living with Him in His
Heaven for eternity after you leave this world.
As the quote from the famous philosopher of the 17th Century Pascal points out, belief in God, The One
God, who created the universe, is “a wise wager”.
